Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck Should Marry Again in 20 Years
Give It Another Shot!
It’s not often that I find myself deeply emotionally invested in the romantic entanglements of two people who, at times, appear to barely stand each other. But here I am, genuinely mourning the loss of a love that seemed, at best, turbulent and, at worst, entirely incompatible. I’m talking about Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. Bennifer 2.0, I was rooting for you!
There’s something irresistibly indulgent about fixating on the relationships of celebrities. It’s a guilty pleasure that most of us are familiar with, whether we admit it or not. Do these star-studded romances ever really work out? Let’s be honest—rarely, if ever. If my own attempts at romance with perfectly ordinary people struggle to succeed, why should I expect any different from couples navigating the added complexities of fame, fortune, and the constant scrutiny of the paparazzi?
And yet, here I am, endlessly pondering the downfall of Lopez and Affleck’s rekindled love affair. Who’s to blame? Could it have been saved? I have no answers, of course—I don’t know these people personally—but that doesn’t stop me from playing armchair relationship counselor as if I’ve got some inside scoop on their lives.
What made this particular relationship so captivating? Perhaps it’s the allure of watching two people, whose love was once picked apart by voracious tabloids two decades ago, give their romance another shot. There’s something intoxicating about witnessing a love story that spans decades, with both parties now older, wiser, and (one would assume) more equipped to handle the challenges of fame and intimacy. Through the lens of their extreme celebrity, they offered the rest of us a surprisingly relatable lesson: maybe we, too, can grow. Maybe we can revisit the past with fresh eyes and find something worth holding onto.
In many ways, their second attempt at love felt like a hopeful beacon for all of us. Despite being much older (and, for me, significantly gayer), it made me reflect on my own past loves. Maybe there’s still hope for a reunion with Ashley M., my first-grade girlfriend. If J.Lo and Ben can do it, why not the rest of us?
As a single person who’s more than ready to find a husband (slide into my DMs!), the idea of revisiting a relationship after 20 years is oddly compelling. Out of all the wild things that celebrities do, this one strikes me as one of the most grounded. Sure, it may not have worked out for Lopez and Affleck in the long run, but what a fascinating exercise in self-reflection it must have been. Imagine not just revisiting an old flame but seeing how you’ve changed through the eyes of someone who knew you in an entirely different chapter of your life.
One of the most viral reactions to their breakup was a call for Lopez and Affleck to get back together in another 20 years. Initially, I found the idea ridiculous. But the more I thought about it, the more it seemed like a genius proposition. Why not? They’ve already proved that love can be cyclical, so why not give it another shot—again?
The Best Late-Night Moment of the Week
No one makes RuPaul laugh more than RuPaul himself, and as any Drag Race fan will tell you, it’s a joy to behold. This week, while guest-hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live!, RuPaul sat down with Maya Rudolph for what turned into one of the most delightfully entertaining interviews of the year.
Rudolph, ever the gracious guest, tried to express her admiration for RuPaul and the impact his trailblazing career has had on her. But RuPaul had other plans. Instead, he shifted the conversation to Rudolph’s late mother, the iconic singer Minnie Riperton. His recreation of Riperton’s legendary vocal run and his subsequent fit of laughter gave me enough serotonin to last the rest of the year. It was the kind of lighthearted moment that reminded me why late-night TV still has the power to make us smile.
The Most Relatable Video
I’ve never been a fan of Big Brother. I don’t watch it, I’ve never watched it, and I have no intention of starting now. But this week, a clip from the show made its way across my social media feeds, and it might be the most relatable piece of reality television I’ve ever seen.
In the video, a contestant completely loses her cool when someone eats off her charcuterie board without asking. Her meltdown is so over-the-top and yet so familiar that I couldn’t help but feel seen. Who among us hasn’t had a moment where a small slight feels like the ultimate betrayal? In this case, the drama surrounding a few missing pieces of cheese and crackers felt almost Shakespearean in its intensity.
I Have to Confess…
Is this a judgment-free zone? Because I have a confession to make: I watched the latest season of Emily in Paris and… I kind of loved it. I know, I know—it’s cheesy, predictable, and full of clichés, but isn’t that exactly why we watch it? Anyway, don’t judge me too harshly. I’ll be hiding in my bunker if anyone needs me.
