On January 29, 2025, a mid-air collision occurred between an American Airlines flight and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter near Washington, D.C., resulting in the deaths of all 64 passengers on the plane and three soldiers aboard the helicopter. Two of the soldiers were identified as Staff Sgt. Ryan O’Hara and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Andrew Eaves, though Eaves’ remains have not yet been recovered. The identity of the third soldier has been withheld at the request of the family. The incident is currently under investigation by the NTSB, FAA, and U.S. Army, which has expressed its condolences and pledged full cooperation.
